The first meeting of the heart and soul group took place in the blue room at Monimail Tower
a couple of weeks ago. We were a small and beautifully diverse group of 5 individuals getting
together for the first time to wonder what this heart and soul stuff is all about. We didn’t
quite get to the bottom of what it’s all about but we did agree that it’s important, and we also
had some good enriching conversation along the way.
Some of the things that we discussed:
What does heart and soul mean for us in our own lives? What nourishes our souls? Where are
the gaps? …. how will we meet the sorts of challenges that peak oil and climate change will
bring on a collective emotional/spiritual level? …. what is the heart and soul group going to do
and how is it going to be? And what can the heart and soul group do on a practical level out in
the wider community? … Whew, big questions. But good ones. Near the end of the meeting we
sat in silence and enjoyed a few minutes of companionable no-talking. I love the way that a
short period of reflective silence really changes the energy in a group.
We don’t just want to be a talking shop and we do want the meetings to be enjoyable. One of
our ideas is to incorporate something a bit different or experiential into each meeting, e.g. a
video clip, a talk, a tai chi taster session…..watch this space! We also want the meetings to be
completely open and accessible to anyone – whoever you are, wherever you’re coming from…
Next meeting is in the blue room (Monimail Tower) on Weds 11 November at 7.30pm. We
will spend some time creating a statement of group values/principles. And we’ll have some
practical action brainstorming. Oh, and something different/experiential too.
All welcome – come and just be yourself.
