NHTT members are invited to attend our ‘Resilient Communities Revitalising Regions’ Seminar, 10 – 5pm on 19th May 2010 at Elmwood College, Cupar, Fife, KY15 4JB.

The aim of this seminar is to:
(i)             Directly contribute to a community engagement strategy by which Local Authorities (and Fife Council in particular) can help Communities to develop sustainable systems through which they can reduce their carbon emissions and build their resilience in the face of the economic and energy predicaments.
(ii)            Provide an opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange amongst community groups in Fife, Fife Council and other stakeholders.

The day will include: community and local authority presentations, a chance for informal discussion and networking amongst CCF funded and other carbon active community groups in Fife, a chance for participants to present their initiatives/ ideas, and space to collectively contribute to developing a strategy for Fife.

Issues to be addressed include:
1.     How can pioneering carbon cutting community initiatives be sustained, and how can they be mainstreamed while remaining cutting edge?
2.     How can less resourced communities be supported to take similar action?
3.     What part can the local authority play in supporting communities to build on their success, and to take action? (e.g. providing clear points of contact)
4.     Do initiatives have specific training and support needs? (e.g. in people issues such as leadership, management, group dynamics, behaviour change, and mobilisation; or in technical issues such as fund raising, planning applications, energy audits, and setting up courses).
5.     If the CCF was to continue in some form, what changes in its scope and processes might further enhance its effectiveness?
6.     How might current economic and political changes impact on our work?
7.     What other institutions/ opportunities could initiatives connect with?

This is a jointly prepared seminar, presented by an ESRC/ SFC/ LARC funded project on reducing community carbon emissions (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/engage/projects/carbonemissions/) and the Sustainable Development Commission Scotland
