The North Howe Transition Toun Food Group and Monimail Tower Project have been working in partnership to create a small scale Transition re-skilling library set in the ancient and unique Monimail Tower.

The opening of the library will take place on Sunday 22 November 12-2pm at Monimail Tower. There will a cutting of an eco ribbon, some local eco poets, an ‘open eco mic’ and a delicious local meat and vegetarian BBQ.

‘Open Eco Mic’ – this will be an opportunity for people to contribute an eco poem or a short eco reading that they have written or is particularly meaningful to them. If people aren’t brave enough to read it out, they can post it up on a board for others to read on the day!

To give you an idea of the range of books The Green Library will have, there are the following subjects:

Local Food, Growing, Small Holding, Fish, Permaculture, Preserving, Eco Building and Renovation, Home Brewing, Energy Descend, Transport, Heart & Soul, Aquaculture, Woodland, Transition, Peak Oil, Local Livelihoods and Economics, Sustainability, Crafts, Nature, Baking, Cooking & a Children’s section. Relevant topical donations to the library are most welcome – if you are keen to donate books please contact Hayley.

Recognising that people going along to the Age of Stupid film screenings will need a little refreshment the NHTT Cafe will be there to provide a little sustenance! The idea of the NHTT Cafe came out of the success of the travelling Transition Tavern. The idea is that the NHTT Cafe can be uplifted and taken to any NHTT or other local events. We are fair trade and organic and supply a range of teas, coffees & softs for kids for your supping delight!

Your_Piece_logoOur drinks are also complimented by Fife made oatmeal shortbread from Your Piece baking Company.

If you are keen to have the NHTT Cafe at your event please contact Hayley Mills or call 01337 810342

There is now less than a month until the UN Climate Challenge Summit in Copenhagen.
Following the recent UN negotiations in Barcelona, preparing for the Climate Summit, ‘the world’s key industrialised nations said they had abandoned hope of a legally binding treaty at the Copenhagen summit next month’ (Guardian, 5th Nov)

We cannot sit by and let this opportunity pass without letting Gordon Brown know that we want him to take a stand on Climate Change. We will be launching our very own Click for Carbon Clean Up Action Page on www.nhtt.org.uk which will list a number of easy ways you can make a difference.

Energy Advisors

A reminder that the CaRB team are looking for local people who are interested in being trained as Energy Advisors as part of NHTT’s Energy efficiency drive- the CaRB Project.
This would involve about a weeks training, probably in early December, to give advice on measures that people could take in their homes to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions. The Advisors would then promote a package
of specific measures, such as insulation and draught-proofing, to local people in the New Year. This would be a part-time contract so if you are interested, please contact Tom Morton , the CaRB Project Manager by Wednesday 18 November.
