Click for Carbon Clean-up! Climate action made easy
Below are a list of simple on-line actions you can take to support our world leaders in reaching a strong, fair and binding resolution at the U.N.Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen this December (7th to 18th).
Following the recent U.N. negotiations in Barcelona, preparing for the Climate Summit, ‘the world’s key industrialised nations said they had abandoned hope of a legally binding treaty at the Copenhagen summit next month’ (Guardian, 5th Nov)
Why does this matter?
Oxfam, World Wildlife Fund and many other international organisations have a global view of how climate change is already impacting on people, animals and habitats:
‘Oxfam is already helping people adapt to the effects of climate change in 20 percent of the countries we work in.
250 million people in Africa who could be facing water shortages by 2020 as a result of climate change.’ www.oxfam.org.uk
“Global warming is likely to be a major cause of species extinctions this century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says a 2-3°C average rise may put 20-30% of species at risk. If the planet warms more than 3°C, most ecosystems will struggle.” WWF’s Impacts of Climate Change

350 Campaign
Two years ago, after leading climatologists observed rapid ice melt in the Arctic and other frightening signs of climate change, they issued a series of studies showing that the planet faced both human and natural disaster if atmospheric concentrations of CO2 remained above 350 parts per million.
Everyone from Al Gore to the U.N.’s top climate scientist has now embraced this goal as necessary for stabilizing the planet and preventing complete disaster. Now the trick is getting our leaders to pay attention and craft policies that will put the world on track to get to 350.
